Great Alpine Rally 2026 – Road Closure Notification

Visitors are advised that sections of Bogong High Plains Road will be closed on Saturday 28 March and Sunday 29 March 2026 for the Great Alpine Rally 2026. These closures are necessary to ensure the safety of both competitors and spectators during the event.
The road will be fully closed during the event on both days. Access will be restricted to normal traffic, and drivers are urged to plan their travel accordingly.
It’s recommended that locals make plans on Friday 27 March, especially if you intend to use Bogong High Plains Road to travel to or from Mount Beauty and beyond on Saturday 28 March due to these closures.
Closure Times & Sections
Saturday 28 March 2026
Bogong High Plains Road (Mt Beauty to Falls Creek) will be fully closed to vehicles from 7:00am to 5:30pm to allow the rally stages to run. No through access for normal traffic during these hours, emergency access will be available if required.
Sunday 29 March 2026
Bogong High Plains Rd from Healthy Spur Carpark to the Omeo Highway will be fully closed from 7:00am to 5:30pm for rally competition and safety. This affects the eastern section of the road, emergency access will be available if required.

Emergency Access During Road Closures
If emergency access to the road is required during the closure periods, visitors may contact the event’s Customer Relations Officer from Australian Tarmac Rally, there will be key officials at entry points that can assist who will also have direct triage with Emergency Services.
Spectator Information
There are no official spectator viewing points along the course. However, spectators are welcome to watch the rally from either end of the course, including Falls Creek Summit, Mount Beauty, and the Omeo Highway intersection.
The ATR organisers emphasise that safety is the top priority. Spectators are encouraged to enjoy the rally from safe positions and to respect all signage and instructions provided by event staff.
