Falls Creek Hosts Annual Victoria Police Alpine Emergency Response Training

August 21, 2026

Alpine Resorts Victoria (ARV) Falls Creek recently welcomed Victoria Police and emergency management partners for their annual alpine emergency response training program, designed to strengthen multi-agency coordination and prepare first responders for emergencies in Victoria’s alpine environments.

Participants receive instruction on alpine response equipment during the annual training program.

Conducted over five days in real-world alpine conditions throughout Falls Creek, the Bogong High Plains and the Alpine National Park, the program brought together operational police members from Bright, Mount Beauty, Mansfield, Marysville and Heyfield. Participants are among the first responders supporting Victoria’s alpine resorts, including Falls Creek, Mount Hotham, Mount Buller and Lake Mountain, as well as remote regions throughout Victoria’s High Country.

A key focus of the annual program is assessing operational response capability and strengthening collaboration with emergency management partners by leading multi-agency teams in snow-based wilderness response. The training is designed to test leadership, decision-making and coordination in challenging alpine environments where effective teamwork and communication are critical to successful emergency operations.

An overnight camp formed part of the five-day training program.

The program forms an important part of Victoria Police’s roles and responsibilities during emergencies, while also equipping members with the specialised skills required for day-to-day policing duties while stationed at alpine resorts. By working alongside partner agencies in realistic field-based scenarios, participants enhance their ability to respond effectively to incidents in remote and often unpredictable conditions.

ARV Falls Creek has proudly supported this annual training program since 2019, reflecting a strong and enduring partnership with Victoria Police and emergency management agencies. This ongoing relationship continues to build capability, strengthen inter-agency cooperation and enhance preparedness across Victoria’s alpine regions.

These collaborative training opportunities play an important role in maintaining a high level of preparedness for incidents across Victoria’s alpine regions, helping to keep communities and visitors safe year-round.
