The First 72 Hour Project

Have you thought about you would do in the first couple of days of an emergency event? The first 72 Hour Project prompts you to think about what you would do without power, phone service, road access, limited food and supplies in the first 72 hours of any emergency. The easy to follow action plans and guidance brochure, which have been developed by Alpine and Moira Shire Councils, are a great resource to get you thinking and support you in your individual emergency preparation needs. Hard copies of these blank forms are available for you to collect at the Falls Creek Alpine Resort Admin Building, 1 Slalom Street or you can download via the buttons below.
What Are You Packing?
To further support your preparations, the Australian Red Cross has a handy Get Prepared App and a host of toolkits on their website.
Have you thought about:
Who are your emergency contacts?
What will you need to do in an Emergency?
Where will you go if you have to leave home?
Where do you get your information from?
How will you evacuate or travel somewhere safer?
What arrangements do you need to make for your pets?
Have you got your medications and important documents ready to go?

stay informed

There are loads of available resources to help you to stay informed ahead of and during an emergency event. As we know, events and conditions can change quickly and without warning and it is our personal responsibility to keep up to date with accurate information to allow us to make informed choices based on our individual situation. We have collated a few helpful resources via the buttons below.
Download the VIC Emergency App and make sure you set your watch zone and switch on notifications to keep across the latest incidents and advice based on where you are.
Knowing where you are in an emergency is crucial, but can be tricky at times. The Emergency Plus App is another great resource which uses GPS functionality built into smartphones to help a Triple Zero (000) caller provide critical location details required to mobilise emergency services. Emergency+ also includes what3words functionality to assist in identifying caller location for emergency service responders. When callers need to report an emergency in hard-to-find locations, the Emergency+ application gives them the option to tell emergency services their location, either in the form of their closest street address, their GPS coordinates or their what3words address.
Keeping up to date with the latest weather, forecasts and warnings with the Bureau of Meteorology and also downloading a lightning tracker is benefical, especially being in the Alpine environment. Additionally, check for Park and road closures or traffic incidents before you travel and learn what the Australian Fire Danger Ratings mean.
