Rocky Valley Lake

One of the standout features that makes Falls Creek unique is the majestic Rocky Valley Lake.

At 1600m this is the highest significant body of water in Australia. Just a short distance from the heart of the village, the lake provides a playground for a range of aquatic activities.

There are also incredible lakes at nearby Pretty Valley and Bogong Village, plus the village aqueducts, nearby rivers and waterfalls to enjoy.

What to do:

Boat Rental
Hire Kayaks, Sailboats, Paddle Boards and more throughout summer via Peak Adventure. Find out more>

Fishing
Rods are available for hire at the Visitor Information Centre and bait can also be purchased. Pretty Valley Lake and the aqueducts also offer great trout fishing.

Boating
Launching ramps on either side of the dam wall allow for easy launching and most types of boats up to 10HP capacity are allowed. Take a leisurely spin or find that perfect spot to drop a line in the deep

Swimming
Bring your bathers and take the plunge. The water is cool and refreshing on a hot day and a shallow descent makes for excellent and safe paddling for children

Kayaking & Sailing
Bring your own craft or rent kayaks, sailboats and paddleboats on the foreshore from 10am-4pm on weekends (weekdays during peak holiday periods)

Picnic
The main shore area features a grassy bank that is perfect for relaxing by the water, plus a number of picnic tables and toilet block.

Dragon Boats
The annual Mile High Dragon Boat Championships are held at Rocky Valley Lake from January 25-26. Register a team, volunteer for one or just relax on the grassy banks and cheer them on!

How do I get there?

From the Village, drive along the Bogong High Plains Rd past Windy Corner. Take the second right that you pass to access the main shoreline area with picnic tables, pier and boat ramp) or continue over the dam wall to access the other boat ramp area directly after the wall.
