2025 Falls Creek Ice Plunge
Sunday, 1 June | 9:30am – 12:00pm
Rocky Valley Lake, Falls Creek VIC
The Falls Creek community is preparing to dive headfirst into winter with the return of its much-loved tradition — the Falls Creek Ice Plunge.
Now in its 18th year, the Ice Plunge is more than just a cold-water challenge. Held annually on the first day of winter, the event invites locals and visitors to take a dip in Australia’s highest alpine lake — often dressed in colourful costumes — all in the name of fun, community spirit, and a great cause. According to tradition, the plunge is an offering to the snow gods for a bountiful winter ahead.
All proceeds from entry fees will go towards FightMND, supporting ongoing research and treatment efforts for Motor Neuron Disease. Big Freeze 11 merchandise, including the iconic beanies and socks, will be available for purchase, with all funds going directly to the cause.
Participants can look forward to a host of donated prizes from local businesses, including rewards for anyone lucky enough to catch a rubber duck during the plunge. After braving the cold, attendees can warm up in Haut Hutt’s sauna, enjoy a hot drink, or grab a BBQ breakfast from local SES volunteers.
For those who prefer to stay dry, the event still offers plenty to enjoy as a spectator, with great food, community spirit, and a memorable winter atmosphere.
Tickets are available for those keen to plunge, and donations are encouraged from anyone unable to attend in person. Every contribution helps. Donate here.
