The Road is Open!

Falls Creek Alpine Resort (FCAR) is thrilled to announce the re-opening of the Bogong High Plains Rd today, two days earlier than expected. The road between Falls Creek and Mount Beauty has been closed to the public since October 2022 due to a landslip.

The Falls Creek Community has been busy preparing for another great winter and welcome the re-opening of the road to all our visitors for another fantastic winter season in our beautiful mountain village.

Major Road Projects Victoria has opened a 300m stretch of single lane access to the public. Traffic management remains in place due to work continuing at the site between the hours of 8am and 4pm, seven days a week, to achieve a permanent fix for dual-lane access. Drivers should allow an extra 15 minutes in their travel plans to accommodate this. For images and further detail, please see MRPV’s project page

Winter 2023, as is tradition, will kick off on June 10 with the Opening Weekend Festival, and the season is set to be our biggest and best winter of events yet. FCAR has invested in fun for families this winter with a brand-new magic carpet at the toboggan park, which will be free for all to use for their snow play delight.

New bars and restaurants will debut, further cementing Falls Creek’s position as the foodie centre of Australia’s ski resorts. Ory’s Restaurant and Bar is the new kid at Frueauf Village serving modern Australian cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dicky Knees has had a revamp elevating the scene for on-mountain lunches – think hearty Bavarian Mountain food and beverages while enjoying the fresh mountain air on the deck. Cloud 9 has completed phase 1 of their revamp with an extension of the mezzanine level and rearrangement of their bar and café, meaning more seating to enjoy their elevated offering of woodfired pizza, and café delights.

For those who missed out on the Early Bird Season pass, both the Season Vehicle Resort Entry Permits, and Short-Term Entry Permits, are now available to purchase. For visitors staying for 10 days or more, FCAR recommends a season pass that offers better value for money. For pricing, please click here

Recruitment continues for the busy winter ahead (see fallscreek.com.au/employment/) with an array of exciting jobs across the resort on offer.

Visitors with questions regarding the Vehicle Resort Entry Season Permits for the 2023 Snow Season can email [email protected] or call 03 5758 1200.

Stuart Smythe, COO of FCAR said, “Our stakeholders and businesses need to be commended on their resilience, having endured business disruption on a scale not experienced by any other businesses or tourism attractions, following the turmoil of the last three years. Bushfire, pandemics and then a landslip isolating the village and severely impacting their operations. The light at the end of the tunnel is now in sight and they are rebounding to make sure our guests and community get to experience all that Falls Creek is famous for.

All winters are amazing, some just more so than others, but we intend to make sure anyone visiting the resort has an experience of a lifetime experiencing all that Falls Creek has to offer, now that the road is open.

We recommend visitors plan a little extra time for their commute to the mountain, as the road will have traffic management protocols in place, so please make sure you stop in Mt Beauty, take a break, grab a coffee, get your snow chains, then head on up the mountain”.

Lisa Logan, President of Falls Creek Chamber of Commerce said, “We appreciate the work of MRPV and DoT for getting access secured in what has proved to be a very challenging process. This period of the road closure has had a significant impact on our community. However, now we can look forward to a busy and successful winter. We hope that our guests and visitors can support us beyond the snow season and come back for our wonderful array of summer experiences and events
