Wildlife mural series transforms Falls Creek into a living alpine gallery
May 13, 2026
Following the Bogong High Plains Road landslip event, which commenced back in October 2022, Falls Creek Alpine Resort received State and Commonwealth recovery funding. In recognition of the significant impact that the seven months of isolation and loss of business revenue had on the community, the focus of the recovery program has chiefly been on promoting social cohesion, community connection and delivering business support and capacity building.
As part of this program, the village of Falls Creek has been transformed into an open-air gallery through the completion of the Wildlife Quest mural project. Marrying connection to both environment and creativity, this project saw collaboration with the Falls Creek Primary School, mural artist, Elise Marcianti and the Falls Creek Alpine Resort environmental team. The result is a series of beautiful artworks, encouraging community and visitors-alike to take the time to explore and enjoy our unique alpine village.
The artworks are not just beautiful; they each hold environmental significance. The animals were selected by the school students as part of an early educational engagement workshop and are all native to the area and endangered. As you take a stroll through the village, keep your eyes peeled for the gang gang cockatoos, broad toothed rats, alpine dingo, alpine tree frog and a Burramys (pygmy possum). The Burramys can be found down at the Gateway Hub, another program brought to the community through the recovery funding. This is a place where community can come together, have meetings, host workshops or co-work from. As we move beyond the recovery funding period, this space will open up to be used as an economic business hub for all to enjoy.
The artworks resonate with Falls creek Alpine Resort’s Arts and Culture Strategy which seeks to celebrate our unique alpine environment and connect community and creativity.
