Howmans Gap Alpine Centre is an alpine centre and adventure camp located by Falls Creek, and managed by YMCA Camps. Catering to schools and groups year-round, the team at Howmans Gap run a variety of programs and activities to suit every group, from skiing and tobogganing in winter, to orienteering and mountain biking in summer.

About the Role
The Catering Coordinator role is a permanent full time role, with the opportunity to live onsite at Howmans Gap Alpine Centre.

As the Catering Coordinator, you will undertake duties required to ensure all camp catering functions are carried out effectively and efficiently. This position is a leadership position, and in this hands-on role you will have the responsibility for supervising, directing and training catering staff as well as working directly in the kitchen.

As Catering Coordinator, you will be responsible for:

  • The provision and preparation of food for camp clients, including the coordination of special diets
  • Ensure sufficient staff are rostered to meet the needs of the groups on site
  • Prepare and serve meals that provide a healthy balanced diet, ensuring sufficient quantity and variety, and professional presentation at all times
  • Applying best practice as outlined in the camp’s food safety program
  • Undertakes a range of operational tasks within established policies and procedures utilising acquired skills and knowledge
  • Coordinate the cleaning of the dining hall and kitchen to meet the needs of groups arriving and leaving
  • Undertake general cooking duties, including baking and pastry cooking
  • Delivery of catering functions ensuring the highest level of quality and safety is achieved
  • Assisting in the training, coordination and supervision of Kitchen Assistants and other catering team members
  • Upholding the values of the YMCA at all times

About You
You are a skilled chef with strong interpersonal and leadership skills, which will allow you to build strong and positive relationships with a number of stakeholders. You will have experience in the hospitality and/or catering industry. You will be well-organised, committed to excellent customer service and have the ability to apply best practice as outlined in the camp’s Food Safety Plan and to ensure compliance with local government requirements and YMCA policies and procedures.

Mandatory Pre-Requisite Qualifications

  • HLTAID003 – Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID001 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • SITXFSA001 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety
  • Current Drivers License

Highly Desirable Qualifications

  • SITXFSA002 – Participate in Safe Food Handling Practices
  • VU21658 – Manage Asthma Risks and Emergencies in the Workplace
  • VU21800 – Provide First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis
  • VU21801 – Develop Risk Minimisation and Risk Management Strategies for Anaphylaxis
