Snowy Start To August - Falls Creek

The start of August is proving to be a bountiful one for our alpine resorts!

Falls Creek, the largest resort in the Victorian Alps, is currently getting a 'top up' of snow (between 10-20cm) and the winter weather is forecast to continue until mid-August.

July was very good, the snow quality at times was the equivalent of what powderhounds experience in the northern hemisphere ski areas and the current indications are August, which has started with fresh, dry snow, is expected to remain 'cool' until the middle of the month.

Snow enthusiasts are responding to the news that the snow is falling and for the lucky ones who can secure somewhere to stay in the picture-postcard alpine resort they'll be rewarded with superb skiing and riding.

Just about every run at Falls Creek is in excellent shape. Plus the cross country skiers are also relishing the resort's excellent 47km of groomed trails.

Bottom line is, the snow conditions are as good as it gets!! With continual low temperatures, it was a ‘feel like’ temperature (wind chill) of minus 8.7 degrees Celcius when they opened the lifts at Falls Creek this morning, the product (the very dry snow and lots of it) is exceeding guests' expectations.

Nozomi Haba, a Falls Creek Snowsports Instructor (who has just completed the 5 day women's program) from Japan said:"I've never seen powder like we skied yesterday on the Summit at Falls Creek. It was the best ever!!"

When it is as good as this at Australian alpine resorts the snow enthusiast's grapevine goes into overdrive. The booking centres at Falls Creek are endeavouring to keep up with the avalanche of calls generated by the snowfalls.
