The 5th annual Falls Creek Sled Dog Classic was held on Saturday night with around 1,000 keen spectators out to get into the excitement of this spectacular race.
Almost 30 teams from Australia and New Zealand took part in the annual race with Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes and German Pointer K-9's in teams of 6, 4 & 2 dog configurations. Whilst rain threatened to put a dampener on the event early in the day, the skies soon turned to snow as the show went on.
Falls Creek is the pioneering resort in alpine dog sled racing as a spectator sport in Australia - the unique ski-in, ski-out environment provides the perfect course for the night racing format. Similar to the Monaco Grand Prix, the race zigzags throughout the village, providing a vantage point from most bars and restaurants in the village. The main hub was Slalom Plaza however with the biggest turnout to the event yet.
With 2015 such a successful event competitors and spectators are already looking forward to the return of the nation's premier Sled Dog event to Falls Creek in 2016.
