Falls Creek delivered an absolute classic of a day for the 2016 Dragon Boat Championships, held yesterday at Rocky Valley Lake. With sunny skies and cystal clear water setting the stage, it was a blissful day in the sun for participants and spectators alike.
The Dragon Boats Regatta is a long-standing tradition at Falls Creek - one that has been in place for 12 years. As an official event on the Dragon Boats Victoria schedule it is also an important day for the dragon boating fraternity. A total of 11 teams took to the water yesterday to compete across the Womens, Mixed and Pink Ribbon categories. The Falls Creek community also came to the party to compete and win the Mountain Challenge (albeit in a field of one this year).
With perfect conditions on and off the water the competition was fierce. In the end the Yarra River Dragons were crowned victorious, taking out the marquee event of the Premier Mixed division in first place. In the remaining categories the Albury Wodonga Warriors proved too hard to beat, taking out first place in the Grand masters Mixed, Grand Masters Womens and Premier Womens categories.
