National Team Update - Tuesday July 1
|
Snow! 25cm of snow fell in the last 24 hours and all the trails are now white! This morning national team athletes did double pole intervals on ski packed snow on the High Plains Road, finishing up the session with a ski up the McKay Road and some telemarking down Wombat's Ramble. The groomers have been out there since late morning, progressively packing down as many trails as possible.
Yesterday the National Team camp kicked off with an hour of skating on the man-made snow at the top of the Falls Express chairlift. Special thanks to Falls Creek Ski Lifts and their hard-working snow-makers for allowing us to cut loops before the ski lifts opened at 8:30. The lap was only 3 minutes long but hey, that's still more than swimmers get in the pool!

National Team Training Centre
|
The Cross Country Skiing National Team Training Centre at Falls Creek was launched in 2004, recognising Falls Creek's commitment to cross country skiing and the world class cross country ski training opportunities available. Falls Creek and the National Team are working together to further develop these facilities and to promote cross country skiing in Australia.
During the Australian winter the National Team Coach is based at Falls Creek, working predominantly with National Team members daily and on training camps and also assisting with coaching Victorian Junior Squad and some of the locally based club and school teams. News from the team competing overseas last summer can be viewed on the Australian Cross Country Skiing website.

Have a Winter Olympian Visit Your School
|
In 2008 schools in North East Victoria have the opportunity to have 2006 Winter Olympian Paul Murray visit their school and talk about cross country skiing. The 45 minute presentation includes DVD footage and images of the Australian Team in action overseas in World Cup and at the Olympics, and also features a lot of non-racing cross country skiing action. Interested schools should contact National Team Coach Finn Marsland on 0408 147 940.
