National Team Update - Monday August 2
Finally we have a massive dump of snow! It's been a lean winter up until now however from a training perspective it's been pretty much business as usual. Falls Creek snow-making was the saviour for our training camps in late June and early July, though it's harder mentally to do lot of short laps the quality of snow was excellent and we had a good early morning ski routine going. Through the middle of July we had a few good days with the track open out past Watchbed Creek, then the McKay Loop / Stockyard trails became the standard location for training sessions. After warm weather and then rain last week we just managed to get through the Australian Pursuit Championship and Victorian Sprint on the weekend. Many thanks to the volunteers from the Birkebeiner and Wangaratta ski clubs who helped to make it all happen, and also to the groomer Ross Forrest who was out there with the shovel with the rest of us. It was great to see some talented new young skiers contesting the events and I'm looking forward to the rest of the races coming up in August. I'd like to extend a special welcome to the Korean Ski Team who are training here at Falls at the moment and will be contesting the Australia / New Zealand Continental Cup races. The increased depth of competition for our domestic competitions is always welcome, and will be enhanced by a handful of Swiss and USA skiers coming later in the month. That's all for now, enjoy the skiing and see you out on the trails.

National Team Training Centre
| The Cross Country Skiing National Team Training Centre at Falls Creek was launched in 2004, recognising Falls Creek's commitment to cross country skiing and the world class cross country ski training opportunities available. Falls Creek and the National Team are working together to further develop these facilities and to promote cross country skiing in Australia. During the Australian winter the National Team Coach is based at Falls Creek, working predominantly with National Team members daily and on training camps and also assisting with coaching Victorian Junior Squad and some of the locally based club and school teams. News from the team competing overseas last summer can be viewed on the Australian Cross Country Skiing website. | |
Have a Winter Olympian Visit Your School
| In 2010 schools in North East Victoria have the opportunity to have Winter Olympians Paul Murray or Esther Bottomley visit their school and talk about cross country skiing. The 45 minute presentation includes DVD footage and images of the Australian Team in action overseas in World Cup and at the Olympics, and also features a lot of non-racing cross country skiing action. Interested schools should contact National Team Coach Finn Marsland on 0408 147 940. | |
