The National Team will return to Falls Creek for the 2012 Australian winter, with the first on-snow training camps beginning in the last week June. As in 2011, Ski & Snowboard Australia will be appointing a Falls Creek Training Centre Coach to work alongside National Team Coach Finn Marsland. The Training Centre Coach will be based at Falls Creek from mid-June to the end of September, working with national and state level athletes on ski technique, overseeing training sessions and monitoring training plans. The Australian winter is very important preparation period for the international competition season in Europe and North America, and at the end of the year Australia is hoping to send its largest ever team to the 2013 World Junior and U23 Championship in the Czech Republic. There is also the 2013 World Championship in Italy, an important benchmark event leading into the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games.
The National Team works closely with Ross Forrest, Falls Creek’s head cross country groomer, to help ensure the tracks are in the best possible shape. When you arrive at Falls Creek look to the notice board at Windy Corner to find out where the best tracks are and what the National Team is up to. You can also find the most recent “XC Twitter” trail reports on the Falls Creek website. Competitions of all levels are held at Falls Creek throughout the season, culminating with the Kangaroo Hoppet at the end of August. Come to Falls Creek to train and race with Australia’s best skiers on world class ski tracks!

National Team and YMCA join forces to run Locals and Masters Clinics
|
Continuing on from the initiative started in 2011, the National Team and YMCA Windy Corner Cross Country Ski Centre are combining resources to run a series of technique clinics throughout the winter. These clinics are a fantastic opportunity for skiers to improve their technique and learn from Australia’s elite athletes and coaches working together with the YMCA instructors. A range of clinics will be held, including specialised clinics for masters skiers and free clinics for locals and mountain staff.
The dates and times of each clinic will be finalised before the start of winter and publicised online via the Falls Creek Cross Country Twitter updates (@Falls_Creek/XC). You can also find a live stream of Falls XC tweets at our cross country page.
