Some of the nation's top indigenous artists will play at the annual Big Fella Festival on Saturday January 2. It is a fusion of music, story telling and the Koorie Night Market which has never travelled from Melbourne to regional Victoria before.
|
This ground-breaking venture got off the ground last year and numerous stall holders will bring arts, crafts and a range of bush tucker including traditional herbs, spices, roo burgers and maybe some croc and emu..
Amongst the line-up of talent which will follow Ruby Hunter's one hour show is the legendary singer songwriter Archie Roach, Deline Briscow, an exciting new indigenous musician, Tjimba and the Yung Warriors Hip Hop group The Grenadines, an exotic blend of modern and traditional talent, and a Falls Creek regular Bomba.
Resort guests will be encouraged to catch these talented entertainers on the event's main stage between 11.15am and 6.30pm.
The Big Fella Festival begins with Ruby Hunter who'll enthral youngsters with her storytelling and children's songs which tell of both remote and city lifestyles.
The Grenadines, who are renowned for soulful harmonies, blistering guitar and pounding rhythms. Fusing rock, reggae, soul and country sounds, follow Ruby on the event's main stage. This group of musicians combine to create urban songs about a future Australia.
Deline Briscoe is the next act to entertain the participants at The Big Fella Festival. A must-see performance by Deline Briscow, who did several sold out shows at The Melbourne Arts Centre with the Black Arm Band, will include numerous songs from her upcoming EP.
In fact the audience will be the first to hear live renditions of tracks such as Lore of the Land, Changing and Time, which is amongst the material Briscow is recording for her first EP which will be release in early 2010.
Deline Briscow will be supported by a six-piece band when she is on stage at the Big Fella Festival.
Indigenous entertainers Tjimba and the Yung Warriors, will present 'Aussie Hip Hop'. This group inspires indigenous youth everywhere with the 'there's always something good out there' attitude. and to 'hold your head up'. They reach out with for everyone out too saying 'our music is for everyone'.
The Big Fella Festival effectively kicks off the alpine resort's line-up of family-friendly events and activities held between the start of the New Year and the Easter Holidays.
Whilst the first major event revolves around the music ability of a swag of indigenous entertainers others such as the annual Billy Cart Derby (a week later) is a huge hit with the resort's younger (and young at heart) guests.
