There's only five days left to enjoy some superbly groomed, snow-covered slopes at Victoria's most picturesque alpine resort.
|
Not a breath of wind and quintessential spring snow conditions after a crisp overnight freeze. The groomer operators have once again produced an array of 'corduroy' on the south-facing slopes in the aptly named Sun Valley.
Wombats Ramble, which winds its way from the top of two chairlifts adjacent to Cloud 9, and Broadway provide easy routes back to the village. The 2009 snow season is gradually drawing to a close and there's still an opportunity to enjoy some spring skiing or boarding.
Reduced priced ski lift tickets $68 for an adult and $34 for a child are very good value considering the amount of snow-covered terrain (and ski lifts) which is being offered including some of the resort's more challenging terrain, particularly Shadow
Ridge near Scotts Chairlift.
Another incentive for anyone contemplating a quick visit to the snow before the ski lifts close on Sunday is an all-inclusive First Timers package $98 ($69 child) which includes snow equipment hire, a ski lesson and the use of popular ski lifts Falls Express, Drovers and Mousetrap.
It is half price to bring a vehicle to the alpine resort for the final week of the alpine resort's winter season.

The quote of the day has to be “the season has started all over again.”
Many Falls Creek residents are hailing the recent three-day snowfall as the best of the season. If it isn’t, it is pretty close!

The skiing and boarding on any of the tree-lined trails today is very enjoyable. Ask any of the locals who have a grin from ear to ear. A combination of fresh snow which fell overnight and agreeable daytime temperatures is a winning trifecta.
Wombats Ramble (the longest beginner-friendly run in Australia) has reopened and some of the resort’s more challenging terrain, particularly Shadow Ridge near Scotts Chairlift, is enticing the more experienced skiers and boarders.

The BOM is stating there will be a cold and vigorous southwesterly airflow over Victoria today. It was minus 5.6C overnight at Falls
Creek and today's fresh snow will be extremely dry.

As we start the very last week of the 2009 season it will be as good (the snow quality) as it was in July. Who would have predicted a blizzard and powder snow for the last week of the winter?
It started snowing on Friday night Falls Creek and it is forecast to keep snowing until Monday, then snow again on Friday and Saturday.
With a feel like temperature of minus 12C at 6am just imagine how good the snow-covered slopes at Victoria's largest alpine resort will be today? There was more fresh stuff overnight - so get out there and make the most of the last 7 days of winter.
Whilst the Cats won by a whisker Falls Creek is offering all footy tragics (including the Saints who were gallant in defeat) half price lift tickets today if they wear their footy colors. It is also half price to bring a vehicle to the alpine resort.

It started snowing last night and it hasn't stopped. There's a substantial amount of fresh snow with more to come tomorrow and Monday.

Who would have predicted a blizzard on the second last weekend of the winter season? Mother Nature has been kind to us and skiers and boarders are going to have a great days' skiing and boarding tomorrow and possibly Monday and Tuesday.
It was very cold this morning at Falls Creek (with a feel like temperature of minus 8.8C) and it isn't going to be much warmer for the next two days. The upside is mid-winter dry snow in Sun Valley, no crowds and a sensational array of snow-covered slopes to choose from.
If you can drop everything do so! It looks and feels like mid winter today.

Go the Cats! Go the Saints!! May the best team win on the day....

Whilst it isn't the glass-half-full time of winter (there's less than two weeks left) it is still providing some joy for the 'White Spacers' who arrived yesterday.
|
A combination of sub-zero temperatures overnight and a chilly minus 6C wind chill would have given the impression it was still mid-winter as opposed to the start of the second last week of the alpine resort's winter season.
Snow is forecast for Wednesday and even more snow is expected at the weekend. Which ensures the 2009 season ends with a flurry of fresh snow.
School-aged skiers and boarders from Queensland are amongst the guests taking advantage of the 50% off peak season prices and this weekend, the biggest on the sporting calender for Victorians, anyone who shows up wearing an AFL footy jumper, will be rewarded with a half price ski lift ticket.

Today's snow conditions were, where it was sheltered, some of the best that skiers and boarders have had this winter.
|
And tomorrow could be one of the best days of winter if the forecasted bitterly cold weather and more snow eventuates.
Anywhere where there are deep pockets of light snow it is sensational riding. The abrupt change in the weather at alpine resorts such as Falls Creek has had a huge influence on the operators of all the snow-related businesses.
Before it was what's going on with the weather? Now it's as good as it gets on the south-facing slopes at arguably the most picturesque winter playground in the Victorian Alps.
The world's most exciting freeriders are also grateful (some more relieved than grateful as they've come a long way) for the fresh snow. It will be a huge boost for the annual Stylewars event which kicked-off today.
For the next four days there will some pretty crazy boarders getting some big air in the Ruined Castle Terrain Park.
