Falls Creek enjoys a mild summer climate however the weather can change suddenly at any time of year. Snow can fall in mid-summer and cold winds can blow up rapidly.

Remember some basics:

- Enjoy your walk or ski!
- A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are important all year round
- Remember to drink lots of water and take regular breaks
- Wear or have warm, windproof and waterproof clothing and remember several thin layers are better than one or two thick ones
- Be prepared to turn back or come in out of the cold if the weather deteriorates
- Know the causes and symptoms of hypothermia and how to treat them

If heading out into the Alpine National Park please make sure someone responsible knows your travel plans and estimated return time. Consider completing a trip intention form available from Parks Victoria or Falls Creek Resort Management (FCRM). You can lodge this form with either organisation if you like. Just remember to let them know when you return!

Winter Safety Tips

Falls Creek's Ski Patrol are the first people on the slopes each morning and the last off the hill at the end of the day. It’s their job to monitor mountain safety and ensure your alpine experience is as safe as possible.
To get the most out of your vacation, Ski Patrol ask you to consider the following:

- Have your skis tuned and your bindings checked, always use your retention strap on your snowboard
- Carry a trail map and arrange a meeting place in case you get separated from your group
- Take breaks regularly during the day. Exhaustion = Injury
- Wear a hat, goggles/sunglasses, and sunscreen – these are essential
- Adults and children should consider using a snowsport-specific helmet
- Observe all signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas
- Do not stop where you obstruct a trail or where you are not visible from above
- Look uphill and give way to others when entering a trail
- When heading outside the ski area let someone know your plans and don't go alone
- Know your ability and always stay in control — be able to stop and avoid other people or objects
- Avoid people ahead of you - they have right of way
- If unfamiliar with an area please inspect it at an easy pace before going at it hard
- Know and observe the Alpine Responsibility Code
