Road Cycling Routes

Falls Creek to Omeo

The recent sealing of 36km of the Bogong High Plains Road between Falls Creek and the Omeo Highway has opened up one of the most spectacular roads to cyclists. The road takes you through the quaint villages of Shannonvale, Anglers Rest and Bingo Munjie. The Blue Duck Inn at Anglers Rest is the ideal rest point as the name suggests, located 47km into the ride. As expected, the ride is challenging, yet suitable for intermediate to advanced riders due to the medium gradients. However, for those who want to push themselves to the max the road continues to Mt Hotham, Bright, Mt Beauty and back up to Falls Creek.

Falls Creek Alpine Loop

The sealing of the Bogong High Plains Road has opened up a 230km loop from Falls Creek through Omeo, Bright, Mt Beauty and back up to Falls Creek. The ride can be taken over a number of days or for the super fit, just one day. This is the route for the 3 Peaks Challenge on March 7, 2010.
The ride is unique in that it is the highest sealed road in Australia and allows cyclists to loop back to where they started.

Falls Creek to Mt Beauty

The 33km from Falls Creek to Mt Beauty along the Bogong High Plains Road is an exhilarating ride whether you choose to ride up or down. With an altitude difference of approximately 1300m, the ascent requires a good level of fitness.
Either way, you travel through spectacular mountain scenery, passing mountain streams and waterfalls, stunning wildflowers and experience a close up view of the changing landscape from the valley floor to the alpine zone. At just about the mid point Bogong Village is a great place to rest before continuing your journey.

Mt Beauty Mountain Creek Road Circuit

This 16km loop is very popular with the locals. From Mt Beauty head out along the Kiewa Valley highway towards Tawonga. A bike track is available for this section. Turn right into Mountain Creek Road and continue over the picturesque Kiewa River before turning right into Damms Road. This will return you to Mt Beauty. The ride weaves through farmland taking in Bogong Estate Winery/Cafe and some fabulous, peaceful riverside locations. Throughout your journey you are treated to stunning mountain and Kiewa Valley views. Following your ride there are many cafes and eateries in Mt Beauty and Tawonga where you can refuel.

Murray to Mountain Rail Trail

The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail is arguably Australia’s Best cycling trail. Suitable for all ages and levels of fitness, the sealed 100km trail though the High Country leads you along historic railway lines, through historic towns and past wineries, where you can stop and enjoy the offerings.
