Renowned foodie takes over the iconic restaurant - Falls Creek
| (Updated Friday 9th April 2010) |
| A serious foodie, and former Falls Creek skier, Barry Iddles, will raise the bar amongst popular wining/dining establishments at Victoria's largest alpine resort Falls Creek this winter. Iddles, the 'skipper' of the Sorrento Catering Company which runs the food and beverage operation at Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club and the Royal Brighton Yacht Club, has established a sound reputation amongst the Mornington Peninsula sailing fraternity. "Summer is always exciting with a total buzz in town. I live on adrenalin and love being busy. However, I get depressed after summer dies down so this year I decided it was time to get the same excitement happening for winter so I've decided I will take over the iconic Winterhaven Restaurant and Bar." This infusion of talent (he's bringing a brigade of chefs rotating from his numerous kitchens and Roy Shaak from Holland who'll be in charge of the Winterhaven front of house) will certainly liven up the contest for the apres ski resort guests. Sorrento Catering Company has established successful venues in Rye (Bamboo was declared best informal dining restaurant Mornington Peninsula in 2009), Bamboo, Mt Eliza's Ranelagh Club. the exclusive Point Nepean National Park and 333 Collins St, Melbourne. This surely bodes well for the new venture in the heart of Falls Creek. The owner of Winterhaven John Grant, a long-time member of the alpine resort's business community, expected to be running his restaurant this winter after spending the summer installing a brand new kitchen to increase the ability to service the 90-seat restaurant. Grant said: "It bodes well for the future. Whilst it was a surprise development it is a high caliber operator who has won a swag of awards, who will take over the running of the restaurant and bar." |
