Welcome to my Blog on the Falls Creek page. I am very exited to be an athlete ambassador for Falls Creek and I am very grateful for their support in the lead up to the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
I’ll start by telling you abit about myself. I grew up in Melbourne and developed a love of the alpine area through my families love of Winter. While in high school I started XC ski racing and during these school years I spent many weekends and school holiday periods fanging around the tracks and alpine slopes up at Falls Creek.
After finishing my university studies in 1999, I decided to move to Mt Beauty at the base of Falls Creek to train more seriously for XC ski racing. Since then I have called Falls Creek and Mt Beauty home and have worked as PE teacher in the local schools on and off over the last seven years. Right now I am a full time athlete which is great! It means I have more time to rest and hopefully ski faster! I am a XC sprinter which means that my event is around 1500m long or takes around 3 minutes.
In 2006 I was a member of the Australian Winter Olympic Team in Torino, Italy and I am now gunning for a spot on the 2010 team in Vancouver.
With only 18 months until the next Winter Olympics, the weeks and months are going by fast! This past winter in Australia has been sensational and with the season coming to a close, there is still so much great spring skiing out there on the trails and around on the High Plains.
I hope that this Blog will give you all a chance to follow my journey from now until Vancouver, and I look forward to sending updates while I am at home training and from the Northern Hemisphere once their season starts in November. This coming season we have the World Championships in Liberec in the Czech Republic in February. I will also have a 3 week training camp on the Olympic tracks in Vancouver, with a pre Olympic World Cup being a big focus for our team in January. So there is plenty to look forward to over the next 6 months.
For now it’s head down and plenty of hard training sessions before I fly to Europe on November the 1st. If you are out there enjoying that Spring skiing make the most of the sunshine!
See you on the tracks,
Paul Murray.
