New Years in the Stars - Falls Creek

(Updated Tuesday 30 December 2008)

On New Years Eve, resort guests will eat, drink, dance and be merry at one of several restaurants or bars around the alpine resort and stroll back to their apartment or lodge without worrying about catching a cab or confronting the numerous breathalysers which are out and about on one of the biggest party nights of the year.

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day will be a family-friendly affair at the alpine resort with lots of indoor and outdoor entertainment.

To celebrate the conclusion of this year there’s an opportunity to welcome the arrival of 2009 up amongst the stars at Falls Creek. And we mean the ones in the sky not the celebs which appear in our glossy mags.

The alpine resort∂s summer line-up of events in 2009 kicks off with a cultural, contemporary, music festival with a strong indigenous flavour.

On New Year's Day (and evening) the Village Bowl will be the venue for a gig with leading contemporary indigenous musicians & artists performing their original work with great bands on the main stage including;

The Grenadines (Contemporary Rock), Tjimba and the Yung Warriors (Hip Hop), Liz Cavanagh (Jazz/Fusion), Peter Rotumah (Acoustic) and Jayden Lillyst (Acoustic).

As a huge bonus there∂ll also be a performance by Jida Murray-Gulpilil, the principal cultural person from the DhuDhuroa clan, who has travelled from Arnhem Land to be involved in a historic, once-in-a-lifetime event, the launch of a Dhudhuroa / WayWurru Language Dictionary on New Year's Day.

Gulpilil said:"I will lead a contingent of dancers accompanied by a renowned didgeridoo player Andrew Murrend.

"We'll involve the resort guests in a traditional Smoking Ceremony Welcome to our country and our elders from the Dhudhuroa and Waywurru (wearing traditional Djinabas or Possum Skin Cloaks) will present a special cultural edition of the dual language dictionary.

Nature-lovers will also be catered for with guided walks and more active resort guests can access the resort’s Summit Chair which is open daily until 4 January.
