New Leaders for Victoria's Alpine Resort Management Authorities.

From the Minister for Environment & Climate Change

Friday, 30 April 2010

Transforming Victoria’s alpine resorts to year-round activity centres will be one of the tasks addressed by 36 new appointees to Victoria’s Alpine Resort Management authorities. Announcing the appointments today, Environment and Climate Change Minister Gavin Jennings said the appointees would lead the development, promotion, management and use of Victoria’s five alpine resorts at Falls Creek, Mount Baw Baw, Mount Buller and Mount Stirling, Mount Hotham and Lake Mountain.

“Victoria’s Alpine Resorts are much-loved recreation centres that also provide jobs to thousands of families which is why the Brumby Labor Government is taking action to ensure their long-term viability,” Mr Jennings said.

“The individuals appointed to these important Alpine Resort Management Boards and the Alpine Resorts Co-ordinating Council roles will inject fresh ideas and inspiration to help drive Victoria during a time of great environmental challenge, notably climate change.

“Offers were made to suitably skilled candidates who are enthusiastic, proactive and capable in their approach to alpine resort management.”

Mr Jennings said the Board and Council members were recruited for their skills and experience in a variety of areas including tourism and recreation, project management, commerce, strategic planning, environmental management, governance, public policy and community affairs.

Board and Council members will be appointed for up to three years after which they remain eligible for reappointment.

Mr Jennings said he will meet the new appointees on 12 May at a formal induction day to congratulate them on their appointment and discuss expectations, roles and responsibilities of the boards, Council and the Department of Sustainability and Environment.
