Fresh snow, sunshine and cool temperatures - Official Home of Falls Creek Alpine Resort

An ideal trifecta as we begin our peak season fresh snow overnight, sunshine and chilly temperatures.


It was minus 4C when the ski lifts opened this morning and will remain very cool in the evening for the next three of four nights.

More terrain is being opened up as we get more snow. A good example is the popular cross-country trails such as Nordic Bowl, McKay and Panorama Loops are now rated very good to excellent.

The amount of skating and classic trails now groomed has reached 40kms and will gradually increase as we get closer to staging the annual 42km Kangaroo Hoppet at the end of the month.

Alpine skiers and boarders also have numerous well groomed slopes to choose from. The pick would be most of Sun Valley and Skyline, Village, Inter and Zipper (for intermediate to advanced snow riders) which be accessed from the top of the Summit Chairlift

Today the picture-postcard alpine resorts natural snow depth is about 65cm (the most snow in Victoria) and there's more snow expected early next week.

Just as we begin the alpine resort's peak season mother nature has cooperated providing a dump of snow which will ensure snow enthusiasts of all persuasions (cross-country, downhill and snow boarding) are catered for.


This is the month when key events such as the 42km Kangaroo Hoppet, invite-only Stylewars, Big Air and the inaugural Falls Creek Sled Dog Race are held at Victoria's largest alpine resort. Participants from all parts of the globe can now confidently plan their trip to Falls Creek knowing it has had a dump of snow and their respective events will go ahead as scheduled.

As of today the picture-postcard alpine resort has a natural snow depth of 63cm and quite a number of trails will be declared open for the first time this winter.

The Summit Chairlift will provide access to Skyline and Village trails for intermediate to advanced skiers and boarders.

A team of creative people will add additional elements to the renowned terrain park and the cross country groomers are making the most of the fresh snow by offering 30km of skating and classic trails.

It is ski in - ski out at its best today and will be for the foreseeable future.

The iconic Summit Chairlift will spin today from about midday. This significant addition to the resort's network of ski lifts will provide access to Skyline and Village trails for intermediate to advanced skiers and boarders.


Powder, powder everywhere!!! After even more fresh snow overnight the slopes are blanketed with oodles of freshies. This will be an epic day for skiers and boarders who are lucky enough to be at Falls Creek today.

Blizzard conditions have transformed the village and runs into a true winter wonderland with 37cm of fresh snow. And more to fall.

Snowstorms are forecast by the Bureau of Met to at least Wednesday, the mercury will plummet to minus 5C tonight. Another snow-bearing cold front is expected on Wednesday which will provide further snowfalls and true mid-winter snow conditions for the very keen skiers and boarders.

Victoria's largest alpine resort is now the ski in ski out village it is renowned for. The forecasted heavy snow has renewed the enthusiasm of the snow-related businesses throughout Falls Creek.

Falls Creek lodge owner Graham Parker said:"We've taken quite a number of bookings since 9am yesterday. The fresh snow gives us a platform on which to say 'its on!' We are now saying to our regular guests we are missing you - now is the time to come.

"We could get well over half a metre of snow if the predicted cold fronts drop even more snow than what's already fallen."

Barry Iddles Winterhaven Restauranteur said: "The heavens have opened up!! There's white gold falling from the sky. Its bucketing down!! Its white everywhere. I can now ski out of my front door this morning. This fresh snow will get us through August."
