Generation Y and anyone into watching gravity-defying stunts on a snowboard will want to catch the MTV one hour special On The 'Piste' this Saturday.
|
The timing is pretty good (early enough before a big night out boogieing somewhere) and the content of the show is a clever fusion of top Aussie Hip Hop and an action packed Rail Jam.
This is the first time MTV has incorporated a rail jam into its annual Snow Jam and the preview of On The 'Piste' has generated some rave reviews.
Rapper Phrase, Jade MacRae weren't going to let a little thing like extreme weather get in the way: They amped the rugged-up crowd to dance themselves steaming, no one in ear shot could deny Hip Hop in Australia is doing some exciting things.
Now the hangovers have cleared and the icicles has melted, Phrase declared his Snow Jam experience was the best time he'd ever had at the snow full stop.
"MTV put me and my band up in amazing accommodation and supplied us with a fair bit of booze to keep us warm through the night.
The crowd was amazing and I honestly said to my mates a few days back that it was the first time I have had really good fun in ages.
The band smashed it and Jade and Illy did an amazing job. The one thing we all found hard was catching our breath. It seemed like the air up there was mad thin... Must be the altitude.
"Falls, you should be proud of yourself!!!
Don't forget to catch Phrase in action when Snow Jam 2009 - On The 'Piste'
With MTV, Premieres on MTV, Saturday August 15 @ 5pm.

"Everyone had a great party at Falls Creek despite the weather and we acknowledged the interests of our audience," said Rebecca Batties GM of music brands, MTV Networks Australia and New Zealand.
|
"It goes hand-in-hand snowboarding and music. The Snow Jam at Falls Creek was open to everyone in the alpine village and we are very pleased with the response to the world-class boarders who participated in the MTV Rail Jam.
The hot, invited boarders competing in the MTV Rail Jam (in conjunction with Burton Snowboards) provided spectacular spills which had the huge crowd wanting more! The boarders responded with some unbelievable tricks on the purpose-built rail in the heart of the alpine village.
About 400 cubic meters of snow was used to create the first ever MTV Rail Jam.
Robbie Walker said:"It was an awesome set up. Super fun and really cool."
Ruby Rose was also impressed with the boarding action whilst she was involved with the music and said:"Everyone had heaps of fun, a great time.
It will be an amazing show when it goes to air in August."
Cut Copy DJs played a mix of beats from the past and present, and despite ice hailing down from the sky, hundreds of punters stuck around to watch them work the decks like demons.
You can catch Darren, Ruby Rose, Phrase, Cut Copy DJ's, Jade MacRae, Illy, Pro-Boarders and more when 'Snow Jam 2009 - On The 'Piste' With MTV"
premieres on MTV, August 15 @ 5pm - so lock it in.

Last night's MTV Snow Jam was hailed awesome by many of the spectators and the winning boarder, 19 year old French Canadian Charles Reid, added $7,000 to his bank account.
|
Reid said:"I've just bought a house near Mt Tremblant and the $6,000 I won for coming first and an additional $1,000 for best trick could help me buy a little car.
"The Falls Creek event was a fun set up. It was small,it wasn't dangerous, it was a smooth set up and I got as high as I could on the wall ride.
"Pretty much every trick I pulled off including a front side 360 was probably why I just pipped Australian rider Robbie Walker (who produced a crowd pleaser with one of his signature backflips) for first spot.
"I love coming back here each winter. It is different to Whistler there's no cars and it is like a small town. I have won about $20,000 including last night's $7,000 MTV Snow Jam prize money at Falls Creek."
Robbie Walker has departed Falls Creek with $3,000 prize money for a hard fought second place. Walker said:"Anyone of the last eight in the final round could have won.
"It was an awesome comp I was happy to get second. The set up was really cool and fun to ride.

Falls Creek, Victoria, has today been announced by MTV Networks Australia as the location for the third annual MTV Snow Jam 2009.
|
(Updated Saturday 20 June 2009)
|
Bringing the event local for the first time ever, Falls Creek will provide the backdrop for the free live music event featuring local and internationally acclaimed acts DJ's and Phrase.
MTV Snow Jam will take place on Thursday 30 July and will be aired on MTV Australia on Saturday 15 August at 5:00pm (AEST).
MTV's hottest rock chick Ruby Rose said:"I'm inviting everyone personally to our Snow Jam 2009 at Falls Creek because this will be the biggest party the resort will have ever seen.
"There'll be amazing live music and lots of crazy people (like me) from MTV.
"I love snowboarding but I've never done an Australian snow season. When I was living in Vancouver I went to Whistler and Fernie in British Columbia.
"Maybe whilst I'm at Falls Creek I'll get an opportunity to go boarding but my work schedule is mental, starting at 6am everyday. And the Falls Creek gig will include something we (MTV) have never done at our annual Snow Jam.
"The big after party, which is free for fans of music, and open to anyone, will be filmed. Anything goes! It will show everyone is in the best of moods and I said previously it will be the biggest party ever at Falls Creek."
This gig is an incredible coup for the resort. It will entice music fans from throughout Australia. However, it will be the ones who book early that will secure a place to stay at Falls Creek Alpine Resort.
Music fans from throughout Australia are expected to travel to Victoria's largest Alpine Resort to be part of the biggest party ever staged at the most picturesque alpine village in the southern hemisphere.
There's some affordable lodge-style accommodation from $90 a night per person (in a quintessential Falls Creek Ski Lodge) to $135 per person including bed and breakfast.
A self-contained, ski in - ski out, four-share self-contained apartment is another affordable option. It would be from $155 per person per night.
