It's snowing and it will snow for several days.
|
Falls Creek now resembles an alpine village with a fresh blanket of snow. More snow is forecast between today and Thursday (possibly up to 20cm) and the serious sub-zero temperatures will be evident on Tuesday and Wednesday when it is anticipated to be a chilly -6 degrees and -7 degrees respectively.
The freezing level could fall to as low as 750 metres at Falls Creek which is an encouraging start to the first week of the 2009 snow season at arguably Australia's prettiest alpine resort.

Quite a number of high profile actors and TV stars were at Falls Creek this weekend, the official opening of the snow season, but the big news is (for snow bunnies) it is snowing and is expected to continue to snow until Wednesday.
|
The respected website (snow-forecast.com) which specialises in snow forecasting world-wide is stating alpine resorts such as Falls Creek will get between 10-15 cm snow between today and Wednesday when the freezing level will drop dramatically to about 950 metres.
The temperatures will also plummet!! It could be a chilly minus six or seven below zero on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively at Falls Creek which is just what the resort's guests are waiting to hear..

The Victorian Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Innovation, The Hon Gavin Jennings, declared the 2009 snow season at Falls Creek, Victoria's largest alpine resort, officially open today.
|
Jennings said:"I am very impressed with the alpine resort's collective vision and its approach to embracing new technology which allows them to produce more snow using less energy.
"The Falls Creek Ski Lift company purchases green power for use by some of the popular chairlifts and it has just installed a state of the art, energy efficient, compressed air unit which will enhance its snowmaking efforts.
"Coupled with a new grooming machine which meets international environment requirements it will make sure Falls Creek uses a precious resource (snow) as long as possible.
"The mountain tops such as Falls Creek are terribly important to the regional economy. Job creation is as important as ever. Some 6,500 full time jobs support the snow season each year."
