 The Helicopter Service Melbourne's fleet of helicopters includes a Eurocopter AS350 BA which will be used tomorrow for the very first day of Heli-Flights between Falls Creek and hotham.
More than 32,000 skiers, boarders and sightseeing guests have taken advantage of the heli-link between the two alpine resorts.
It is about a six minute flight in a five to six seat helicopter which cruises at 120 knots (222km per hour ) as it whisks its passengers from a purpose-built helipad at Falls Creek and Hotham.
Along the flight path you'll see some awesome snow-capped mountains such as Mt McKay (accessed by cat skiers or boarders with a guide), razor-sharp Mt Feathertop, cross-country skiers, historic cattlemen's huts and if you are really lucky wild brumbies.
The single engine AS 350 BA helicopter is renowned for its high performance, its safety and its capacity to carry out a wide range of missions. It will will only provide the heli link (from early July to mid-September) when the weather is deemed satisfactory, because it is visual flying.
Whilst guests are at Falls Creek they should ask the staff at the Activities Desk (within Falls Creek Sports at the Village Bowl) if the chopper is likely to fly between the two resorts. A Falls Creek ski lift ticket is valid at hotham (and vice versa for hotham-based skiers and boarders).
