Film Festival - Falls Creek

Film Fest @ Falls celebrates the vibrant energy of Australia's emerging independent film makers, showcasing cutting edge works in a short film competition. Set amidst the intimate alpine environment of Falls Creek the festival provides a casual atmosphere for filmmakers to introduce their work to industry professionals.

FILM FEST @ FALLS Announces SHORTS @ FALLS Competition
Film Fest @ Falls, now in its fifth successful year, has announced its short list from this year’s Shorts @ Falls Short Film Competition. The annual festival takes place Queen’s Birthday weekend, celebrating the opening of the ski season, with the intimate village of Falls Creek providing the perfect backdrop to the festival’s ‘hothouse’ environment.

The mountain-top festival is one of a kind with an exciting mix of screening, industry and cultural programs, fire-side forums with industry luminaries, and showcasing the newest talent in Australian cinema.
Artistic Director, and founder of the Festival, Sally Hussey was excited by the quality of this year’s short film competition submissions: “We have fielded the strongest uptake of short films, with a fantastic cross-section of new cinematic artists. New additions to the jury this year also add to the weight of the competition, and with the jury members attending the festival, it provides a great opportunity to mix with industry decision makers.”

Filmfest@falls is a mountain top celebration of Australian filmmaking, with landmark retrospectives, screen talks, live script reads, fireside discussions with industry luminaries and an exclusive first look at unreleased feature films. The intimate alpine setting provides a forum for new cinematic artists to introduce their work to key industry decision makers. Hosted by the Falls Creek Alpine Resort Management Board on the opening weekend of the 2008 ski season, the festival has a cash and industry sponsored prize pool valued at over $30,000, with films selected by a panel of industry professionals and prizes awarded by an independent jury.
