Cup weekend ride includes summiting Falls Creek - Falls Creek

(Updated Monday 19th October 2009)

The Melbourne Cup weekend Bright Boot Camp includes a ride to Falls Creek Alpine Resort.

Serious recreational or racing cyclists who relish a challenging training environment will appreciate the structure of the annual Bright Boot Camp.

Held in one of Australia's most scenic Alpine areas, the five day camp caters for the moderately fit cyclist who wants to test themselves up some seriously big hills, in a relatively safe and supportive environment.

David Heatley (the coordinator of the Alpine training camp for cyclists) said: "It is an awesome area for riding. We have 1,000's of cyclists on our data base who ride their hearts out.

"Every day is flexible so you can now tailor your experience as you ride. It's also great if you plan to bring your family or partner to the camp.

"The Bright Boot Camp is structured so that it can be ridden by novice to the elite cyclists. Generally you would need to have been regularly riding for more than a year "Also it advisable if cyclists feel they can complete a 100km ride with ease with an average speed above 23km and be comfortable riding in a bunch of 10+ riders.

"About 45 riders will participate in the second days' ride - a 130km round trip including summiting at Falls Creek. A shorter option (which is a new option) is a Mt Beauty return - Coffee Ride (70 km).
