Cross Country Skiing - Falls Creek

Falls Creek is proud to be the home of Australia's National Cross Country Ski Team.

You’ve come to the right place. Falls Creek is the heart of Australian cross country skiing, the home of the National Team and the host of the Kangaroo Hoppet. Falls Creek has it all, 65 kilometers of world class groomed tracks, easy access for touring on the Bogong High Plains, and unlimited options for backcountry telemarking. Whether you are interested in a cruisy ski out to Wallace’s Hut, have a bus load of beginners to instruct in the sheltered Nordic Bowl, or want to get fit for the Hoppet, we have the facilities for you.

When arriving at Falls Creek day visitors should drive though to the Windy Corner car park. The cross country ski tracks head off from outside the
YMCA Windy Corner Cross Country Ski Center, which houses a day shelter, café, cross country ski hire and ski school. To access the cross country trails from the Falls Creek Village you can either ski out along the aqueduct from the top of the village, or catch a free shuttle bus to Windy Corner from the bottom of the Gully, Falls Creek Express Chairlifts or outside the Oversnow terminal.

The Kangaroo Hoppet is Australia’s international ski marathon, held every year on the last Saturday in August. Other events at Falls Creek during the winter include club competitions, state and national championships, and the Junior Joey series for primary school aged students.

The National Team Training Centre for cross country skiing was established at Falls Creek since 2004. Look at the
National Team section on this site during the winter for updates on the team’s activities.

Feedback on Falls Creek’s cross country facilities is considered by the Falls Creek XC Advisory Panel, which is made up from representatives of the main cross country user groups. Your say can be delivered to the panel via the suggestion box at Windy Corner or via the Falls Creek Resort Management office.
