Canoeing & Boating - Falls Creek

Adjacent to Falls Creek are Rocky Valley Lake and Pretty Valley Lake which together form the highest significant bodies of water in the country.

Boating provisions on Rocky Valley and Pretty Valley have been established by Parks Victoria to provide opportunities for a range of activities while minimising noise levels, shoreline erosion and disturbance to anglers and other visitors.

Rocky Valley Lake

On Rocky Valley Lake there are two boat ramps on either side of the dam wall and most forms of boating are permitted. Please be aware that water skiing, paraflying, kite flying, jet skis and boats containing toilets or sleeping accommodation are not permitted.

A maximum speed limit of 10km/hour and a maximum engine capacity of 10 horsepower applies to all power boats.

Boating is not permitted between the dam wall and the red floating beacons or within 30 metres of the shore except at launching ramps.

Boats need to be launched and removed from the water at the two properly constructed launching ramps only.

Pretty Valley Lake

Pretty Valley Lake is a spectacular hidden jewel in our Australian Alps. The cool waters of this lake is framed by grassy banks, it's a great spot for a picnic and provides some of the best trout fishing in the country.

Please note: Power boats of any type are not permitted on Pretty Valley Lake.

For experienced paddlers

Experienced paddlers looking for a challenge in North East Victoria should try the 7km stretch along the lower reaches of the Bundara River, ending at the Mitta River junction. This short day paddle offers some challenges to canoeists and kayakers, including several Grade 3-4 (difficult to very difficult) rapids.
