Brisbane Rowers Arrive - Falls Creek

(Updated Tuesday 25 November 2008)

"We will be joining the Falls Creek-based National Altitude Training Centre to take advantage of its facilities. The alpine resort is ideal for the training needs of the 41 year 12 and Year 11 boys".

Brisbane Grammar School's rowers return to Falls Creek.

Ned Draydon, one of the coaches of the Brisbane Grammar School's head of the river winning eight crew, is returning to Falls Creek with quite a large contingent of young rowers.

Draydon usually coaches his up and coming young rowers on the Brisbane River and he is very familiar with Victoria's largest alpine resort.

"I was training at Falls Creek in the summers of, 1992 and 1993 with the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) and got to know how good it is for our boys, says Draydon who now competes in a cycling team and the Australian age group triathlon team.

"We will be joining the Falls Creek-based National Altitude Training Centre to take advantage of its facilities. The alpine resort is ideal for the training needs of the 41 year 12 and Year 11 boys.

"We'll take Mt bikes for cross training as well as four eights and one four for two daily sessions on the mile-high Rocky Valley lake.

"About 20 of the young rowers in our squad was at Falls Creek this time last year last and they (the boys) just love the atmosphere of the venue and we have the lake to ourselves.

"We use the swimming pool at Mt Beauty and the terrain around Falls Creek for cross training on Mt bikes."
