Wholesome family entertainment with lots of thrills and spills as Billy Carts negotiate a track which weaves down a course lined with hay bales in the heart of the alpine resort.
|
Little and big kids who enter the annual Billy Cart Derby provide free entertainment for the resort's guests who line the course from the start (between Milch Cafe and Summit Ridge) to the finish line. Whilst it isn't too gnargly the track on the resort's streets often proves to be too much of a challenge for some cart and drivers.
Last year, the inaugural Billy Cart Derby, enticed more than 35 enthusiastic competitors. Amongst the more creative entries was a lego-lookalike billy cart built by the Lego Lads, a foursome that studied aero space engineering. They, and quite a number of creative entries, are expected to be at the start line for the second Billy Cart Derby scheduled to start at 10:30am on January 9.
There's six divisions, 5-9 year olds, 10-14's, 15 plus, primary school, high school and corporate, with one racer at a time on the course. The younger kids will be racing on a shortened version of the track.
Each competitor will be allowed two runs with their best time being used to determine if they advance through to the final. A championship cup, among other prizes, will be awarded in each division.
And after the daytime entertaining there's more! Jetty Road, nominated for 4 Golden Guitars in this years Tamworth Music Awards, will begin their gig at The Bush Bash in the Village Bowl around 7.30pm.
Twin sisters Lee and Paula, Julian and Simon make up the talented outfit; their music being described as a tapestry of rock, pop and country, with a hint of folk. Imagine The Corrs, Fleetwood Mac and The Dixie Chicks with a unique Australian edge.
Jetty Road have gone from strength to strength. Touring alongside nine time Golden Guitar winning legend James Blundell for two years, they had a great start to 2009 at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, winning the Australian Country Music People's Choice Award for Best Group as well as back to back TIARA Award honours.
And to test any resort guest who still has the stamina a mechanical bull will be installed close to the FREE evening concert starring Jetty Road in the natural Amphitheatre known as the Village Bowl.
