There was intense rivalry between several schools on the final day of this year's Subaru-sponsored Australian Interschools SnowSports Championships at Falls Creek.

Reigning champions Sydney-based Scots College retained their title with a
narrow three point win over arch rivals Melbourne Grammar. Scotch College
was third with 58 points.
Andy Kovari the Master in Charge of Skiing at Scots said:"It is incredible that we finished first two years in a row. The boys performed well throughout the well run championships."
The winning school in the Co-Ed Secondary School Division was Snowy
Mountains Grammar (181 points) second Redlands (150 points) and third Geelong Grammar (63 points).
This years Champion Girls Secondary School winners were first place with 105 points MLC, Victoria, second with 55 points Ascham School for Girls, Sydney, and third place (52 points) Melbourne Girls Grammar.
With podium places being evenly spread amongst quite a number of schools quite a number of the 2,000-plus competitors went home with a gold, silver or bronze medal.
In fact the local Falls Creek Primary School has achieved results well above modest expectations. Lily Newton-Brown is now the Australian Champion skier in the Division 4 Girls Moguls. Zoe Scott (also from Falls Creek Primary School) topped the Division 5 Girls Moguls and her team was awarded
first place in the Division 5 Girls Moguls.

just pipped Jindabyne Central School for first place in the team results.
Good results for the Falls Creek Primary School continued in the Skier Cross with Lily Newtown-Brown taking out first in her division and Kendra Etherton did likewise in the very competitive Division 5 Girls Skier Cross.

The final day of the five day Subaru-sponsored Australian Interschools SnowSports Championships will feature some talented school-aged alpine skiers.
|
Whilst more than a thousand medals (bronze, silver and gold) have been awarded to skiers and boarders so far today's alpine ski races will determine the school which will be anointed the number one school in the annual Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships.
There has been numerous thrills and spills (particularly in the mogul
competitions) at Falls Creek but all events have been held in a friendly, supportive environment.
A majority of the 2,000-plus entrants in about seventy separate events are all winners in what parent suggested was similar to a mini Winter Olympics.

Whilst there is intense rivalry between the school-aged skiers and boarders in the annual Subaru-sponsored Australian Interschools SnowSports Championships the overall attitude of the hundreds of skiers and boarders is to achieve a personal best result.
|
With podium places being evenly spread amongst quite a number of schools the 2,000-plus competitors are providing a high degree of satisfaction for their respective schools.
In fact the local Falls Creek Primary School has achieved results well above modest expectations. Lily Newton-Brown is now the Australian Champion skier in the Division 4 Girls Moguls. Zoe Scott (also from Falls Creek Primary School) topped the Division 5 Girls Moguls and her team was awarded first place in the Division 5 Girls Moguls.

Today is the second last day and the alpine skiers are bringing what has been an outstanding event to a conclusion. After Sunday’s alpine races are decided it will then determined which schools performed to the expectations of the numerous coaches, teachers and parents.

Today’s moguls events will be held in ideal conditions. Sub-zero overnight temperatures will ensure the purpose-built mogul courses on Big Dipper will be suitable for the numerous school-aged skiers competing on day three of the five day Australian Interschools SnowSports Championships.

The Interstate rivalry has resumed again today with mogul skiers displaying their individual skills in all divisions. Also today is another entertaining event, the Skier Cross, which is held in Sun Valley.
The very competitive Alpine events this weekend will determine which school wins this year's Interschools SnowSports Championships.
So far quite a number of schools are quite pleased with the outcome of numerous events which have been held in almost ideal weather. Today began with a crisp morning, blue sky and not a breath of wind. Lets hope mother nature continues to be kind to the 2,000-plus entrants in about seventy separate events.
The attitude of the huge contingent from Snowy Mountains Grammar (who are doing very well so far) sums up the general mood of the majority of schools.
Sue West Director of Sport said:"We have brought our largest contingent (62 skiers) to a national titles. Our strength is in our depth and we are proud of the students who participate in multi disciplines. We’ll have at least four competitors in all seven events.”

The results for the first day of the five day Australian Interschools SnowSports Championships were evenly divided amongst school-aged skiers from Victoria and NSW.

Interstate rivalry will resume again this morning when all divisions (boys and girls) from five to one compete in Snowboard events which will take place on the challenging Scotts race hill, and slightly less demanding Father Fosters.
In the afternoon the more senior students (Division One and Two) will complete the Boardcross events. Held on quite a long, purpose-built course on Route 66, the track they compete on has all the features expected on a 'motor cross on snow' .
This event creates a lot of interest amongst the snowsports athletes of the future. The winners we be announced at the medal ceremony held at Cloud 9.
Mogul skiers get their opportunity to show their individual skills on Friday morning with competition scheduled for all divisions on several courses set on Big Dipper. Also on Friday (in the afternoon) another entertaining event, the Skier Cross, will be staged in Sun Valley.
The very competitive Alpine events on Saturday and Sunday will determine which school wins this year's national Interschools SnowSports Championships.
However, all the 2,000-plus entrants in about seventy separate events are all winners. Similar to the Olympic ideal it is the quest to achieve a personal best outcome which is the most important aspect of the five day national Interschools SnowSports Championships.

The participants in the Australian Interschools SnowSports Championships first events, the Cross Country (both Classical & Relay), had an early start today. A fresh dusting of snow and well groomed courses will be used on Headwater.

Entrants in the Boardercross Division three, four and five, boys and girls, didn't have to start as early (as the Cross Country skiers)
but they have a busy schedule. The very popular event brings out the natural ability of many of the young riders. The heats and finals will be determined by mid-afternoon today.
All divisions of the Snowboarding competition will be underway by 9.15am on Thursday morning and the winners will be announced at the medal presentation which begins at 4pm at Cloud 9.
More Boardercross events will be held on a purpose-built course (on Route 66) which has all the features expected on a 'motor cross on snow'. There's rollers, berms and jumps to test the skills of the more experienced snowboarders. Again the winners we be announced at the daily medal ceremony at Cloud 9.
Mogul skiers will be in action early on Friday morning with competition scheduled to begin at 9.15am on several courses set on
the aptly named Big Dipper. Throughout Friday afternoon a different, even more entertaining event, the Skier Cross, will be staged in Sun Valley.
The extremely competitive Alpine events on Saturday and Sunday will wrap up this year's national Interschools SnowSports Championships which will have enticed participants from about 150 schools to Falls
Creek.
Coping with approximately 2,120 entries in seventy separate events over five days is quite a feat. Falls Creek has hosted successful national Interschools SnowSports Championships in the past and this year the various events will be held on purpose-built courses throughout Sun Valley.

The 2009 Subaru Australian Interschools SnowSports Championships begin with Cross Country (Classical & Relay) and Boardercross tomorrow.

Division three, four and five, boys and girls, will also participate in the Boardercross on the first day of a very competitive national titles.
Snowboard events are scheduled for Wednesday, Mogul competition (on the aptly named Big Dipper) on Thursday, Skier Cross on Friday and the Alpine events on Saturday and Sunday.
Falls Creek is the host alpine resort for the 150-plus schools from across Australia who will be represented in virtually every snow sport.
Between Wednesday and next Sunday the alpine resort will be awash with young, up and coming athletes, who will seek glory for their respective school and state.
About 2,120 entries in seventy separate events over five days will be quite a challenge for everyone involved in running the nationals.
Falls Creek has hosted successful national Interschools SnowSports Championships in the past and this year the various events will be held on courses throughout Sun Valley.
National Interschool's Opening Ceremony on Thursday in the Village Bow at 6.30pm. The Opening Ceremony includes an exciting night show and spectacular fireworks display.

General Manager of School Snowsports Robert Osborne, said: "The entries for the national titles, to be held at Falls Creek, are flooding in. We¹ll know after 5pm today how many school-aged participants will compete at Falls Creek in numerous disciplines.

"There will be between 2,200 2,400 entrants in the Australian Interschools Championships with enthusiastic young athletes from every school throughout Australia with the exception of the snowless Northern Territory.
"Queensland is sending a 100-plus children for the first time who qualified through its state titles. South Australia is also sending a considerable number of young snow enthusiasts."
Francis Jackson, the alpine resort¹s Snowsports School Director said: "This is the third time we have hosted this intense five day event.
"I¹d expect future instructors, ski patrollers, youngsters who¹ll migrate to ski race clubs and even aspiring Winter Olympians will emerge from this top notch group of skiers and boarders.
"With plenty of snow we have access to all courses we plan to use for hundreds of young athletes who¹ll will contest a variety of disciplines including Skiercross, GS. Moguls, Cross Country and Boardercross."
"To gain entry to the finals of the Australian Interschools Championships a team must be in the top five or an individual would have qualified in the top ten of his or her event," said Robert Osborne GM of School Snowsports.
