Art Exhibitions & Camps - Falls Creek

Falls Creek has developed a reputation as the "Arts Mountain".

Artist Camps 2008 Works Now On Display!

June 8th, 2008.

The Minister for the Arts, Lynne Kosky, today officially opened an Art Exhibition at Falls Creek which included some of the works created at the annual Falls Creek Artist Camp.

Over four years of Artist camps, 22 participants have been introduced to what Arts Minister Kosky declared what was special about Falls Creek.
Kosky also said:" In the future the exhibition of the work created by the artists who attend the annual camp at Falls Creek could be shown to other communities throughout Victoria.

"It will help people understand what is special about the people (and their passion) who appreciate what this alpine resort offers year-round.

"The Falls Creek community is grateful for the extraordinary efforts and ideas of a group of people who think outside the square. Their range of interpretations whilst they are here adds to the sustainability of the alpine resort.

The Artist camp 'founder', noted photographer Peter Bennetts, said:"If nothing else we have ignited in them (the artists) a love for Falls Creek.

"I'd like to see Falls Creek adopt a new moniker 'the mountain of ideas'. Ideas of environment, technology, creativity and sustainability are all related together and contribute to our sense of place.

"So lets continue to build on the confident expression manifest in some of the village's latest architecture and development, in the cutting edge technology and skill set employed on the ski slopes.

"Let's embrace the best of environmentally sustainable practices AND the arts."

Artist Camps & Master Classes

Every year over the long weekend in March (8-10 March 2008) select artists gather at Falls Creek to celebrate the high country. This year we intend to continue from our summer exhibition theme to focus on rejuvenation and regeneration of the high country after bushfires.

Works created during and inspired from the Artists Camp will form our winter 2008 exhibition.

On Plein Air occurs every Sunday of the March Long Weekend in Victoria where all artists are invited to take part in an informal creative session held on the foreshore of Rocky Valley Lake adjacent to the Falls Creek village. For location details please contact Falls Creek Resort Management on (03) 5758 3224.

All of the lodges and restaurants around Falls Creek display great pieces of art, many created by local artists and inspired by the natural beauty of the Bogong High Plains.
