Sub zero temperatures yesterday didn’t continue overnight at Falls Creek and with high humidity (up to 98%) it wasn’t a viable proposition to turn on the alpine resort’s array of snow producers for the night.
However, there was some good news last night related to the quest to make snow at Falls Creek, a massive, energy efficient, compressed air unit was lifted by crane into the snowmaking ‘engine room’ located at the bottom of Towers.
Geoff Sorensen, the alpine resort's Slope Maintenance Manager said: "The increased air capacity. associated with the more efficient compressors, will enhance our ability to produce snow using less energy.
“It, the American-made Gardner Denver compressor, will be online in two to three weeks adding a respectable amount of compressed air to our extensive number of Techno Alpine and York snowproducers strategically positioned around the alpine resort.
